Glorior Belli - Gators Rumble, Chaos Unfurls (2013 NN Promo)


"They must play their music pretty damned loud in Louisiana, because those smoky southern grooves must have made their way across the ocean and right into Paris, where this Frenchman was at one time probably playing a version of experimental black metal quite like his contemporaries in Deathspell Omega. The odd mixture has resulted in Glorior Belli’s current sound and style, which has since resulted in some of the most interesting black metal that I’ve come across in my life. Calling Glorior Belli’s mastermind Billy Bayou, the pioneer of “southern fried black metal” might actually be acceptable in this notion, as I’ve heard no one else in the genre ever attempt this. To be honest, I’m reminded of Down, Down and more Down on this entire release, regardless of the fact that there still exist some moments in black metal..."
